There’s one little problem with federal charges against the JetBlue captain who went berserk in midflight. How do you charge someone with “interfering with a flight crew” when he is the undisputed leader of that flight crew?
Osbon left the cockpit soon after and tensions on the plane began to escalate, according to witness accounts compiled by investigators. Osbon, described by neighbors in Georgia as tall and muscular, “aggressively” grabbed the hands of flight attendant [sic] who confronted him and later sprinted down the cabin while being chased.
From inside the locked cockpit, which Osbon tried to re-enter by banging on the door, the first officer gave an order through the intercom to restrain Osbon, according to the affidavit. Passengers wrestled Osbon to the ground, and one female flight attendant’s ribs were bruised during the struggle. No one on board was seriously hurt.
This guy’s either a complete loon (not against the law) or was self-medicating (broke a different law) but he didn’t interfere with a flight crew, the rest of the crew interfered with him.
According to officers with the Lewisville Police Department, an elderly man has admitted to shooting and killing his wife after becoming frustrated with one of his dogs for defecating inside their house.
The Bowles-Simpson deficit-reduction plan went down to a crushing defeat in the House late Wednesday night in a vote that damages the one bipartisan proposal that just a few months ago had seemed like a possible solution to the country’s debt woes.
The 382-38 defeat, with just 16 Republicans and 22 Democrats voting for it, marks a bad end to what began nearly two years ago, when President Obama tapped former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles, a Democrat, and former Sen. Alan Simpson, a Republican, to lead a deficit-reduction committee.
Their report has popped up in every deficit discussion since then, but had never gotten a vote in either chamber until this week, when opponents prevailed.
Minutes earlier, the House also defeated Mr. Obama’s own budget, submitted last month, on a 414-0 vote arranged by Republicans to embarrass the president and officially shelve his plan.
So Obambi’s budget and Obambi’s cronies’ budget both got less than 10% support. I can see where democracy has become an embarrassing feature of our politics for Obambi.
Children are being lumbered with hours of school homework every week -- but the extra slog does not do them any good, according to an Australian study.
Research reveals elementary school homework offers no real benefit -- and only limited results in junior high school.
Once a kid has learned how to do long division, his doing more and more long division problems is of diminishing benefit each time. If the kid hasn’t learned how to do long division in class, no amount of repetition will help. (Via Drudge.)
Much has been made of a favorable SCOTUS ruling on Obambicare making the notion of limited government irrelevant. But such a ruling would also make much of the SCOTUS’s power irrelevant as well. If Congress can mandate anything, there are no future decisions to be made. You can only be the all-important swing vote if there’s something to vote on. (Via Drudge.)
An overseas newspaper has the scoop on Trayvon Martin:
Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was allegedly suspended from school after security officers found what they described as a ‘burglary tool’ and women’s jewellery in his backpack.
The new claims, revealed in a leaked school report, paint a different picture of a troubled teenager who was kicked out of school a total of three times.
The Miami Herald claims that in October, he was caught with a ‘burglary tool’ - a flathead screwdriver - and 12 pieces of women’s jewellery. Martin insisted that they did not belong to him.
Earlier, he had been suspended for skipping school and showing up late to class. And most recently, in February, he was suspended again when officials found a ‘marijuana pipe’ and an empty baggie with traces of marijuana.
So George Zimmerman thought this kid was a burglar. Imagine that.
Would Obambi, who says young Trayvon looked like the son he never had, let someone with that history date one of his daughters? (Via Drudge.)
